LEDs and Trees Coming to Crystal City’s Southern Entryway
Groundbreaking Ceremony: Monday, October 3, 10:00 a.m.

Crystal City, VA – The southern-most doorway to Crystal City will soon have a sparkling, new look. The Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID), in partnership with Gould Property Company and BPG Properties is set to break ground on a large-scale lighting and landscape enhancement that will create a truly enticing gateway experience.

The 30,000 square foot parcel of land, owned by Gould, is located at the intersection of Route 1 and Crystal Drive and presents the first impression of Crystal City onto nearly 50,000 drivers that arrive to the area on a daily basis. The Crystal City BID partnered with award-winning designers at Gensler to develop a plan that communicates the excitement and vibrancy of Crystal City. The project adds new turf, 28 trees, and beautiful LED lighting features laid out in an interesting and attractive geometric pattern that continues up the façade of the southernmost building in Crystal City, which is owned by BPG.

“Enhancing the Crystal City gateways is a fundamental part of our mission,” said Crystal City BID President/CEO Angela Fox. “As the southern-most entrance to the area, this elegant design provides an appropriate welcome that illuminates and reflects the transformation of Crystal City as an exciting and bright place to be.”

With Virginia Department of Transportation and Arlington County permits in hand, the Crystal City BID contracted Rand Construction to implement the plan. Construction is estimated to take 6-8 weeks, giving residents, employees, and visitors to Crystal City a new gateway by Thanksgiving.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for Monday, October 3 at 10:00 AM at 2900 Crystal Drive. To learn more about the enhancement or about the groundbreaking ceremony, please visit www.crystalcity.org.
