Get Healthy With Crystal City
Week-Long Series of Events Helps All Focus on Health
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – From Monday, April 30th, through Friday, May 4th, Crystal City will be the picture of health for the DC Metropolitan region as it kicks off a series of events designed to keep the community fit, healthy, and green. The launch week will feature free outdoor yoga and Zumba classes, a fitness fair, farmers market, street hockey, and a floral frenzy.
"Get a jump start on the season with fun outdoor programs," said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. "Everyone - foodies, gardeners, athletes, health enthusiasts, et al - can find something to love during Crystal City's Fit Week."
The week kicks off Monday, April 30th at 7:00am with the weekly yoga class held in Crystal City's beautiful Water Park located at 1750 Crystal Drive. Led by instructors from Mind Your Body Oasis, a new yoga studio opening in Crystal City in the fall, Monday morning yoga gives participants an opportunity to flex their way into the work week. Enjoy these weekly sessions through the end of September.
The Crystal City FRESHFARM Farmers Market returns to Crystal City on Tuesday, May 1st from 3PM to 7PM. Featuring a diverse selection of goods from local producers, this weekly market runs from 3-7PM on Crystal Drive between 18th and 20th Street and continues weekly through November 20th.
On Wednesday at noon, an energetic crowd will salsa, shimmy and shake with outdoor Zumba in the courtyard at 2121 Crystal Drive. This class takes place every week through the end of September, and participants can freshen up afterwards with a complimentary shower at the nearby Sport & Health club.
On Thursday, May 3rd, Crystal City will host a Fit Fair featuring blood donation and health screenings, including blood pressure analysis, body mass index assessment, body composition, chair massages, dermaview facial skin screening, gait analysis for runners, a nutritionist, information on quitting tobacco, carbon monoxide screenings, postural screenings, and a stress test booth. Located at Crystal Drive and 18th Street, the health fair will be open 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
The new season of Crystal Rolls - Street Hockey starts on Thursday, May 3rd at 6:30pm in the parking lot adjacent to 220 Twentieth Street. In partnership with the DC Social Sports Club (DCSSC), Crystal Rolls - Street Hockey lets enthusiasts join as individuals ($25) or form a team ($250) for 11 weeks of Thursday evening or Sunday morning matches.
Fit week concludes with the first Floral Frenzy of the year. Occurring each spring after the beautiful tulip blooms have peaked, the Bulb Blitz invites area residents and workers to dig in on the fun of removing the thousands of tulip bulbs from the sidewalk in front of 2121 Crystal City Drive. Typically discarded after a single season of blooming, these high quality bulbs will continue to bloom for several years.
