Crystal City Gets Even More Accessible
Area Wi-Fi Network Upgraded and Expanded
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – Last week, the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) announced a significant upgrade and expansion to its free, outdoor, wireless Internet service, Crystal Wi-Fi. Now available, the hot zones are located throughout the area’s many beautiful outdoor spaces, courtyards, and plazas, providing an opportunity for residents, employees, and visitors to get outside and online.
“Crystal City is the most accessible downtown in the Washington Metropolitan Area – from airplanes to trains, bikes to cars, and we were excited to add fingertips access with last year’s launch of Crystal Wi-Fi,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “And, we’re keeping pace with the advent of iPhones, iPads, Droids, and wi-fi-based video conferencing by investing in an even larger Wi-Fi network of the future.”
The increasing popularity of portable hand-held devices has added additional demand for Internet bandwidth. For example, the new iPhone 4 includes video conferencing capabilities that rely on Wi-Fi Internet access. The new system was designed to accommodate heavier traffic from the growth in the use of these and other wi-fi enabled devices.
Crystal Wi-Fi is provided by the Crystal City BID through a creative partnership where Atlantech Online offers free broadband access, Vornado / Charles E. Smith provides roof top use for antennae installation, and Wi-Fi Relativity brings the expertise and management of the wi-fi infrastructure.
