Scrumptious Food and Wine Samplings, Plus Live Jazz and Art
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – The Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) announced that it will host the 2nd Annual Vintage Crystal – A Taste of Wine & Jazz on Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM in the courtyard at 2200 Crystal Drive. The afternoon will showcase wines from around the world and culinary samples from restaurants in Crystal City and the metropolitan area. Jazz harmonicist Frederic Yonnet, along with other talented musicians from DC’s own Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, will add jazz flavors amid an open air market featuring local artisans’ work.
“Last year’s inaugural Vintage Crystal attracted more than 5,000 people,” said Angela Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal City BID. “Washingtonians clearly wanted an ‘inside the Beltway,’ Metro-accessible outdoor wine event. We were thrilled with the results and are making it even better this year, with more food, more wine tents and pourers, more live jazz, including the fabulous Frederic Yonnet, and a new outdoor art market.”
More than 20 wines will be featured, including Virginia’s own Stone Mountain Vineyards. To accompany the wine sips, many notable area restaurants, such as BEBO Trattoria, BIN 1700, Café Pizzaiola, Cucina Vivace, Lebanese Taverna, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and the Ritz’s new FYVE, will be serving delicious treats. For a complete listing of wines and participating restaurants, please visit http://www.crystalcity.org.
The Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, which celebrates Washington, DC’s native son and the area’s rich jazz history, will give enthusiasts a taste of the organization’s upcoming 4th annual festival. Frederic Yonnet is part of a small cadre of musicians who has successfully shown the multi-faceted ability of the harmonica as a lead instrument in contemporary jazz, R&B and other music genres.
Tickets will be sold on-site the day of the event for $20 and will include sips, tastes, sounds, a commemorative wine glass, and access to Crystal Market, where patrons can purchase paintings, ceramics, glasswork, jewelry and other hand-made items. Designated driver tickets are $10 and admission for kids is free.
To further demonstrate their deep commitment to the environment via the Crystal Green Program, the BID team is launching a “low to no-waste” initiative for all of its future events. Vintage Crystal will offer on-site recycling and will use recycled, recyclable, and/or biodegradable products for all samples. The BID asks patrons to do their part by getting to the event on foot or by Metro.
MIX 107.3, DC Modern Luxury, Arena Stage, and Synetic Theatre are premier promotional partners for the event.
