ANGELA FOX, PRESIDENT OF CRYSTAL CITY BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE

Women in Green Forum in Los Angeles is Nation’s Premier Conference Highlighting Women in Environmental Careers

CRYSTAL CITY, VA.— The Crystal City Business Improvement District (Crystal City BID) is proud to announce that Angela Fox, President and CEO of Crystal City BID, will take part in a national environmental conference.

Fox will participate in the Women in Green Forum, the nation’s premier conference on women in environmental careers, taking place in Los Angeles from August 30 – 31, 2011. She will contribute to a panel on the growing impact of city and regional programs on environmental sustainability, a topic she deals with frequently through her work with Crystal City BID.

Under Fox’s leadership, Crystal City BID launched Crystal Green, a program that minimizes the environmental impact of residences, businesses and events through partnerships that focus on energy efficiency, environmental quality and waste minimization. A number of Crystal City hotels participate in the Virginia Green Lodging program, which offers guests optional daily linen changing services to conserve water and opportunities to recycle. Another example of Crystal City BID’s sustainability work is their annual Power Purge and Shred event, in which businesses and residents safely recycle old electronics and documents.

“At Crystal City BID, being green is part of who we are. Our Crystal Green program includes events that make it easy to help the environment, such as Power Purge and Shred, which has safely recycled more than 90 tons of electronics over the past three years,” said Fox. “I am looking forward to showing others at the Women in Green Forum how to apply our model in their communities.”

A pioneer in environmental sustainability, Crystal City BID has rolled out sustainable landscaping programs, waste-free events, composting, community-supported agriculture, street recycling, a farmers’ market with local produce and much more. Crystal City is also the region’s leader in bicycle culture, something Fox helped make possible.

A Prius-driving, 25-year vegetarian, Fox is excited to share her environmental passion on the national scale. “My personal commitment to the environment helps shape our programs at Crystal City BID, and I’m eager to connect with other women who share the same passion.
